Gunter Goldendoodles understands you are happy and excited about your new puppy. We also realize it can be a real adjustment in your home. We start crate training at 7 weeks. We put each puppy in an individual crate each night. This early training is a perk we give as we feel it is so important to develop the puppy's habits early and get them through this tough transition before they meet their new family.
GunterGoldendoodles has a great training program for our beginner puppies. We are here to help our families that desire a program to help make the transition from their mother and litter mates to their new family and home environment. Our Prep School offers you a puppy without all of those new puppy issues. It is easier for your puppy to begin the training straight from us at Gunter Goldendoodles verses trying to hire a trainer. We already know your puppy and their personality traits.
It is very difficult and often times impossible to undo the negative behaviors a doodle developes during these fear imprint periods.
Dogs that are denied socialization during this critical Socialization Period often become unpredictable because they are fearful or aggressive.
Any traumatic, painful or frightening experiences can have a lasting impact. This is why we highly suggest that all puppies go to a minimum of 2 - 4 weeks of Prep School.
Puppies 8-12 weeks of age are prime for learning and strongly affected by their environment both positive and negative. That makes it crucial to use proper training techniques. Things learned are permanent and will be resistant to change. Puppies are eager to learn and what they experience with be permanent even into adulthood. Puppy’s temperament and personality become more apparent. Puppy will be transitioning from mother to the human environment and must learn the human is in charge.

Training Programs Follow
Our Crate Training Program is for families that would like for us to keep their puppy for one extra week, crate train & teach them their forever name. The goal is to have the puppy adapt to crate training and advance spending time in the crate without objection. This makes for a happier transition to your home and the family can avoid the first few loud and messy days of puppy training. This is a very small portion of training,
Additionally, we work on the obedience & helper commands. The puppies work on down, sit, paw, and leash in all sessions each day. Potty training is always performed 24/7. Your puppy is on leash most of the time he is out of his crate so we are set up to be successful. Socialization continues as your puppy experiences all the aspects of home. We are having potty breaks to limit accidents.
We work on the obedience & helper commands. Letting the puppy know they will always have a commander and not be in charge themself. Crate training now should be progressed after week one to being able to hold potty 2 hours at night & barking very minimal. We are having potty breaks to limit accidents. Manners are being worked on with rewarding treats for each and applause.
Week 3 and 4 the obedience is becoming more solid and we begin adding difficulty through the 3 d’s (distance, duration, distraction). The puppy is being allowed more supervised, off leash, in the house freedom week 4 because at this point there is a good foundation of good choices being rewarded. We now will give the puppy a chance to make the wrong choices so he can receive feedback if he does and rewards when he doesn’t. We will begin instructing the puppies go to the door by week 4
after introducing the bells for 14 days so they can start to memorize the routine. During the first 4 weeks of training your puppy will go through two of the Most Important Socialization Periods and Fear Imprint Periods of their lives. Lasting impact and rapid learning happens from 8-12 weeks of age. It is crucial that proper training techniques are used. Things learned are permanent and will be resistant to change so they will be seen as an adult. We are fully transitioning from Mom to humans.
A trained puppy makes for an easy transition to their forever home!
